Leadership camp is threedays- two-nights-long camp, where individuals strengthen their leadership skills and abilities. Their development is aided by ‘builders’ (group leaders) who run hands-on activities and crazy fun games. Another important aspect of leadership camp is its ability to bring people together and create comfortable socializing atmospheres. Basically, leadership camp is an incredibly fun and inspiring experience.
I was extremely excited when I found out I would be attending the OCDSB leadership camp. What could be better than spending an entire weekend meeting new people and playing awesome interactive games? Since the camp is run by the school board, I envisioned luxurious accommodations, gourmet foods, and amazing builders and students. Unfortunately, our accommodations consisted of sand-littered cabins and dirt-covered bathrooms. The food, though disappointing, was a huge improvement from previous years. Some activities were also questionable, since they were either vague or not useful. One session on public speaking had each student stand up and give a 30- second speech. Not only was the criticism subjective and ambiguous, but thirty seconds was too short for real speech-making. Despite these shortcomings, meeting new people and acquiring ideas for the Bell leadership camp made this camp worthwhile.
Speaking of Bell leadership camp, it is amazing. I have never had any problems with the food or accommodations, since the camp is hosted in Bell High School, and the food is provided for by your dedicated Brüt team (Bell students). Campers see the school from a new perspective and in a completely different atmosphere. They have the chance to befriend and meet other students in a pro-socializing environment, making it easy for shyer students to lose their inhibitions. The games and activities are also extremely well organized, considering they have been continually improved upon and collected over the years. Finally, Bell’s camp is very supportive of involvement and acceptance. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come, even if socializing isn’t your thing. The friendliness of Bell students makes it easy to find comfort among peers.
The bottom line is,
Bell Leadership Camp is epic.
