Many people would say that Tom Cruise (Thomas Cruise Mapother IV) is completely off his rocker, but I’d disagree. I think he is totally sane. Sure, he may have some beliefs that you may not agree with but, that doesn’t make him insane. His personal life isn’t really our business in the first place and let’s face it, he’s a brilliant actor.

Tom Cruise is a scientologist. He was introduced to Scientology by his ex-wife Mimi Rodgers.

“Scientology - a new religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard in 1955 and characterized by a belief in the power of a person’s spirit to clear itself of past painful experiences through self-knowledge and spiritual fulfillment”

That doesn’t sound too bad now does it? People are quick to judge based on personal beliefs. Compared to most religions Scientology isn’t that far off in left field. People just like to think that if something’s been around longer that it’s more believable. I’d be more inclined to believe in Scientology then some of the more practiced religions based on what I’ve heard. Freedom of religion is something that I strongly believe in right along with the freedom to form one’s own opinions. I’m not going to sit here and lecture you if you think that Scientology is completely insane because you, as well as Tom Cruise, have the right to your own opinions. I’m just saying that I don’t think that he should be judged solely on his religious beliefs.

The Katie Holmes/Oprah moment was one I’ll never forget. The media hype was extreme. Again, I don’t think this was totally insane. He genuinely seems like he “LOVES KATIE HOLMES”. I think he’s just a man who’s passionate about the things he loves. He is intense in his movie rolls, his interviews, his beliefs, and his love for Katie Holmes apparently. I think it got a bit too much media attention for what it was; it was quite funny so I don’t see why people can’t just overlook it.

Cruise is one of my favourite actors. He always gets so into his role and takes movies to a whole new level. His characters are so believable and I can almost always relate. It seems he’s picky about the scripts he takes because I can’t remember a bad movie I’ve seen him in. I recently saw his movie Valkyrie, in which he played Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg. It was one of the best movies that I saw in 2008, by far. It was so epic and moving. Not only was the directing superb but, the acting was on a whole other level. I even forgot once or twice that I was in a theater. He may be a bit insane, but really, who isn’t? I know I am.

Quotes:
-“SAT (exam) scores have gone right down the toilet. The parents are blaming the teachers, the teachers are blaming the parents and the psychs are putting everyone on drugs.”
-“I believe in life. I know that life comes in at your heart and it doesn’t matter if you’re an actor, a filmmaker or a gentleman on the street, it comes at you. What Scientology gives me is the tools to deal with that, to better enjoy my life and to be able to contribute more.”
