“Hey (insert name here) how are you?” “I’m great thanks, just on my way to practice!” “Math practice? Science? English?” “No silly, It’s Nordic Ski season. Didn’t you know? Everyone is welcome. We run dryland training every Thursday after school and on snow every Sunday in the Gatineau Park.” “Oh that sounds like fun, but I don’t have any skis!” “Not to worry, just talk to Mrs. Mason or Ms. Cameron and you can borrow all necessary equipment from the school. Information packages and permission forms are posted on the bulletin board outside the girl’s change room. Will I see you there?” “Absolutely! I’m looking for a great time learning how to ski, improving my overall health and challenging myself mentally and physically. All while having a great time with friends of course!” “Yes! Believe me, you won’t be disappointed. “Oh darn, I better get to class the second bell is about to ring and if I’m late Skippy will kill me!”

The Nordic Ski team, coached by Mrs. Mason and Ms. Cameron, has begun training and welcomes all athletes interested in having a great time learning a new sport! We ski on the groomed trails in the beautiful Gatineau park. See coaches or the big RED bulletin board outside the Girl’s change room for more information or to pick up your forms! Races are in early February.

Congratulations to the Bell Bruins Senior Boys Volleyball team in their strong season playing Tier I AAA/AAAA. Facing tough competition in schools such as Glebe and Colonel By. The Boys worked hard and finished the season with a .727 win percentage, 16 points, and earned fourth in their league. Congratulations. Bumping and Volleying into the playoffs the boys lost a hard fought game to a strong team from Hillcrest. Great season you have made your Bruins proud! A special thank you to hard-working coach Mr. Cook. Your dedication to the game and in creating a positive environment where the boys could develop is greatly appreciated.

Newly-implemented and created by Melissa Flatla, Bruin Sports Beat writer, is the gloBell Roar Sports Beat Coaches Award for dedication and the fostering of a supportive atmosphere. Each issue will feature a coach who has gone above and beyond his or her duty to a team or activity in order to further athletic and personal development. Congratulations Senior Boy’s Volleyball Coach – Mr. Cook.

Senior Girl’s Volleyball is underway. Bruinettes are anticipating a strong season filled with achievements and learning. Bell High School supports you. All students are encouraged to cheer on their Bruins in sports action whenever possible. Go Bruins!

The writer of this article would like to apologize to the Boy’s Soccer team for inadvertently overlooking them in the previous edition. Much thanks to Adam Thomson for his constant nagging. If it weren’t for you I would have had a group of angry soccer boys after me. The paragraph below is dedicated to the Bell Bruins Senior Boy’s Soccer team.

The field is empty, and the bleachers silent in anticipation. All is at a stand still. The grass is covered in dew as the weather gets colder. It doesn’t matter. The boys are ready. They approach, slowly, the field. The opponents stand, in awe, at the Bruins before them. “They look scary” a feeble boy says to his team-mate. “You’re right” was all he could stammer in response. A sea of red and black flood the field. The intimidation factor...the opponents... they’re scared. The referee blows his whistle calling the team to the field. The opponents are hesitant. The Bruins are fierce. The ball is kicked to the left, and #18 moves it up the field. He is quick, and with a blur the ball is now at the feet of #12. Approaching the net the Bruins gain momentum. The ball is kicked – soaring through the air...

The goalie dives. “Wrong way!” they shout! And within a matter of seconds... Bruins 1, Opponents 0.

Congratulations on a wonderful season to the Senior Boys Soccer team. Playing in tier II the Bruins overcame some tough opponents to finish the season with a respectable record. Adam Thomson had a wonderful season playing all positions and carrying the team singlehandedly on his back. Adam Thomson was also involved in the inclusion of this particular sentence, however as a result of his one-man attitude he has agreed to provide the Bell HS community with an interview. Congratulations Bruins! Way to kick ball!
