Sibling Rivalry

Alison Sheckler is the eldest child, while Olga Koppel is youngest in her family. These Bell students are always brimming with sunshine on the outside, but both have some serious worries on their minds. They can't avoid that human tendency to think that the grass is greener on the other side, and that their sibling always has the best of everything. Alison and Olga know you feel the same way. They provide you with consolation in the form of a refreshingly candid conversation so you can indulge in your self-pity, just this once.

Alisogator: Hey…olakoppola! How’s your life going?

Olakoppola says: Today I heard the phrase "you look just like your older brother!" :(

Alisogator says: What’s wrong with that?

Olakoppola says: What if that's the last thing you wanted to hear? *cringes* Welcome to sibling rivalry. The older siblings always get the success, and the younger siblings get to let down those who think they'll be as good as the older sibling.

Alisogator says: Well then the younger child gets off the hook easier for everything. Your punishments aren't very severe.

Olakoppola says: I'm already practically a prisoner, what more can be done to me?!

Alisogator: Looks like a majority of younger siblings are rather pessimistic…

Olakoppola: Yet it's the older ones who get more motivated by their parents to do things. My brother is even better at playing cowbell, which you know is my passion. I guess I should accept that the older sibling is a better person.

Alisogator: You have plenty of privileges. My sister has so much freedom with what she does… she gets the same allowance as me and doesn’t need to save up for college yet.

Olakoppola: Look; I'm stuck in this dumb social life cycle, wasting time on things like where I fit in the status quo and on how to dress so I don't stand out too much. Meanwhile you're working towards your future. Let her get drag herself out to parties while you accept scholarships.
Alisogator says: Bet your bro told you about high school and what to expect. I was so scared that I didn’t pay attention to where I was headed. I fell UP the stairs on the second day...

Olakoppola: AWE :( Hopefully.... our siblings don’t read Globell Roar. Or we could be anonnomous writers.hehehe…

Alisogator: Omgosh my moms not letting me go be a greedy consumer at the mall.
I have to babysit my sister. *barf*

Olakoppola says: lol. I get hand me downs. Hand me downs never fit me, my brother is unbelievably tall.
Olakoppola says: ... and male.

Alisogator: I need clothes, at least you have something to wear.

Olakoppola: Oh honestly, AliGator! There's a big difference between wearing your “last-week's fad” outfits and showing up in something that looks like it mopped up a soccer field, and then grew 4 sizes larger.

Alisogator says: You get to meet all your brother's very attractive guy friends. Hehehe ;)

Olakoppola says: Honestly, they show up at our house at 8:13 A.M. when I’m all bleary eyed and yawning. I doubt they care much. They have better things to do, like cowbelling like a pro.

Alisogator: I think you’re just being modest. When your brother invite friends over, I bet they waste their time being infatuated with you. Haha.

Olakoppola: Well, they wouldn’t go as far as infatuation, but they do serenade me with the cowbell…
Alisogator: I never get serenaded with cowbells! *sobs* BTW, what does it feel like to be the youngest? Do you feel like you are living in the shadow of your sibling?

Olakoppola: Exactly!
living in the shadows,
of someone else's dreaaam ... ♪ ♫

Alisogator: Don't compare yourself to him. You're just... different.

Olakoppola: Oh, you mean like those Climate brothers? They're both so unique. Thermo is the younger one and Frosty the older, right?

Alisogator says: Yes! I saw them today. Thermal was wearing a hand me down green sweater, while Frosty was wearing what he thought was the latest trend (apparently, he can’t think straight today). I've seen that green sweater before… I think Frosty wore it 2 years ago in gym class. Hehehe.

Olakoppola: Really? I never noticed what Frosty wears, he barely talks to me. Thermal's always so nice and friendly, though.

Alisogator: Frosty only ever opens his mouth to flirt. o_O

Olakoppola: LOL. Girl, he's probably just insecure. Thermal, on the other hand, doesn't need to flirt with every single girl; he doesn't need that validation.
Alison: Frosty has his good points too!

Olakoppola:He is so kind to his younger brother. He helps him discover his skills. He is Thermal’s pathfinder! Frosty's the explorer. He paves the way! You know, different as they are, they do love each other very much!

Alisogator says: deeeeeeeeep down inside, we all love our siblings! ;)

Olakoppola says: of course!

Alisogator says: we would assassinate those who bully them. In a figurative way, obviously…

Olakoppola: of course.G2G. My mom and I are going shopping for a new leotard for dance class because mine's out of season.

Alisogator: Aren't leotards expensive?

Olakoppola: yeah. LOL. But my mom will ONLY take 2 hours to shop with me, because we have to pick up my brother from his community service work.

Alisogator: Oh yeah, my little sister is doing comm. service tonight too.

Olakoppola: I thought she'd finished all her hours?

Alisogator: she is! she's just doing extra. What a silly child. When she grows up, she'll how dumb that is, like I can see now.
