Did you know that every 39 minutes a drunk driver kills someone? Bell High School’s Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving club (OSAID) aims to raise awareness in the school about the dangers of driving while impaired. OSAID has been a part of the school for many years and we continue to be a part of Bell’s student environment. Through fundraisers, awareness events and guest speakers, OSAID and its members help educate the students about the importance of driving sober.

OSAID ran numerous fundraising events and at the end of the year, $500 was donated to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), our sister charity.

There are many fun, exciting and eye-opening events to look forward to this year. In October, we held an event called a ‘Wii Bit of Drunk Driving.’ With the help of some goggles that simulate a drunk person’s vision and Mario Kart Wii, students were able to see firsthand how difficult and dangerous it is to drive while impaired. In the coming months OSAID will be raising money for MADD by selling non-alcoholic drinks at the dance, running Gotcha (the ultimate stalking game) and holding the much anticipated BYOB (Bring Your Own Banana), an event whercan get a banana split for a banana and a dollar. Every Friday, OSAID sells lollipops, tied with the red MADD ribbon, in the foyer for $1 each.

OSAID is always looking for new members; the more people, the easier it is to spread the message! We meet every Thursday at lunch in room 221 or 225. Members gain valuable leadership experiences and volunteer hours for the work they do for this great club. We look forward to welcoming new members to OSAID. Remember, choose your ride and arrive alive!
