Throwing a pie in your favorite teacher’s face, eating mango chicken, or watching some teachers break it down. What do they have in common? Interact!
Over the years, Bell’s Interact - or “Internation Action” - club has spearheaded many fundraisers with an aim to support numerous local and international projects. Do you remember ‘Pie the Teacher’, ‘International Banquet’, and ‘5 Dollar Day’? Well, all of these are coming back this year.
Throughout the past several years, the club has supported the building of a school in Nduto, Kenya, while also working on other local projects. This year Interact will continue to work towards raising money for the Kenyan school while also supporting the Michael Heights School in Ottawa. Fundraising will begin in October with a fall clean up event that will give volunteers the opportunity to catch up on their community hours and clean up the neighborhood.
Sadly as time has gone by the population of the club has dwindled and new junior members are needed now more than ever. At the beginning of summer vacation Yuka Sai, Wahid Raman, Meghan Wray, and I found ourselves in a meeting preparing the Interact club for the upcoming school year.
Plans were made to bring the school the best possible events Interact had done and increase the participation of all its members.
Considering the incredible success of last year’s International Banquet (mmm... I repeat…mango chicken) another one is scheduled to be held later on this year. Although the date for this event is yet to be confirmed, mark down April as your ‘IB’ month.
